Coronado Islands, Mexico, 16 October 1999
| The Intended Plan... Hope to make a couple night dives and then the Scripps Canyon, the next morning while on this trip. The night dive will be with Blue Escape Dive Charters. The Scripps Canyon dive with One Eyed Jacks Charters. |
What I ended up doing...
The above was the plan, BUT... Blue Escape canceled their night dive because they didn't get enough people to sign up for it. Jack's gave the same excuse for the Canyon dive. I ended on going out with Ocean Express who has recently merged with Jack's. The trip was to the Coronado Islands in Mexico, just south of San Diego. This was my second time there, but this time I was able to take plenty of pictures of a group of playful seals. I am very glad I went on this trip, just sorry to have missed out on the Canyon and night dives.

Can you find the 2 fish in this one?

2 seals 'mouthing' each other. They 'mouthed' (tried to bite) me and my
camera light, but the camera wasn't tasty enough and my wet suit was too
thick.

The color red at depth

This one has a mouth full of sea grass.
You can see another seal near the surface.

Note the big eye on right.
One seal passed under me as the one on right passed over me.

Kelp

(the smallest)

This one bumped my camera

Got a good picture of this starfish,
but it was sure moving out fast.
Never saw one move so fast.

Fat Boy

What is he/she thinking...
I can see it's brain working...

These are the California State Fish.

'Kelp in the wind'...

I love the sea grasses

Kind of dark... another seal
Top Side Pictures...

Nice beach to lay on, huh...

This is looking west. Nothing between us and Hawaii,
except water...

Looks innocent, but the swells/surf was a nightmare inside this cove.

Two men in a boat. These guys were 'fishing' for those black spiny
urchins. They sell them for the meat inside. They are a long way from
shore...
